The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority's battery energy storage system is a 20,000kW energy storage project located in Puerto Rico. It was announced in 2018 and will be commissioned in 2020. The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority owns the system (100%).

The President authorized $1 billion for the establishment of the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund in 2022 to drive investments in renewable and resilient energy infrastructure on the island. A community benefits plan required by DOE “is being finalized and will be released to the public soon,” the agency said.
The announcement comes as the U.S. territory continues to struggle with chronic power outages that have worsened since Hurricane Maria pummeled the island as a powerful Category 4 storm in 2017, razing the electric grid.
